Leaves arise from a crown and are pinnately divided like a feather. The divisions are rounded. Flowers are white, with 4 petals. Fruits are mostley cylindrical, the seeds in two rows within.

Leaves and stems: raw, peppery in salad greens; cooked as a potherb or steamed. Even raw in sandwiches. Seeds are harvested only from dried seed-heads. The stem with flowers may be gathered when many of the yellow flowers have wilted and dropped. In NS where the climate is damp, collect the stems once the yellow staminate flowers have dropped
