This common beach plant produces masses of leaves arising from red stems. Low-growing. The leaves are ternately compound, that is divided 3 times. Flowers are carried in an umbel which is also compound. Distinguished from Seaside Angelica by its low height and colonial nature.

Recipe

Boil sections of stems until a fork easily pierces them. Then simmer in a syrup of 1 cup of sugar to each cup of water for 15 minutes. Cool and roll in granulated sugar. An acquired taste but worth the attempt.
