Characters

The floating leaves are oblong or round, longer than wide. The veins are pinnate in these varieties. Flowers are yellow, with fewer petals than the water-lily. They appear July and August. Disk may be red, yellow or green.

Used For

Seeds may be used to thicken soups or stews. Young leaves are delicious chopped and steamed. I have never tried them raw. All parts are reportedly useful.
