Dandelion

Common name

Dandelion

Latin name

Taraxacum officinale

Characters

This most common spring wildflower is recognized by most and reviled by many too! Its leaves are sharply lobed at the base of the plant. The smooth stem has no leaves, but is hollow with a sticky white latex. Each plant produces one flower-head. It is bright yellow and comprises many straplike ray florets. The flowers give way to seeds that have barbed hairs, allowing them to spread, copiously!
